Borgo Torale
The Relais Borgo Torale Residence is in Tuoro Sul Trasimeno in the province of Perugia, on the border between Umbria and Tuscany. It is a place of rare beauty, surrounded by unparalleled nature and wildlife, on an estate of over 12 hectares of centuries-old olive and oak trees that is perched on top of a hill overlooking Lake Trasimene.
A convenient and strategic location just 5 km from the lakeside towns of Passignano and Tuoro, and less than 2 km from the E45 expressway.
The towns of Città della Pieve, Castiglione del Lago, Panicale, Magione, Perugia, Assisi, Todi, Gubbio, Spoleto, and, in nearby Tuscany, Cortona, Montepulciano, Pienza and Siena, are all within easy reach, within a radius of 70 Km.
How to get there
For those coming from the North on the A1 Autostrada del Sole, take the VALDICHIANA exit. Then continue on the 75bis via the Perugia-A1 spur road to PERUGIA, exiting at PASSIGNANO OVEST and keeping to the left for TUORO. From here it is just a few minutes to the Relais Borgo Torale.
For those coming from the South on the A1 Autostrada del Sole, take the ORTE exit. Then continue on the E45 towards PERUGIA and then on the 75bis via the Perugia-A1 spur road to FLORENCE, exiting at PASSIGNANO OVEST and keeping to the left for TUORO. From here it is just a few minutes to the Relais Borgo Torale.
Alternatively, you can take the CHIUSI CHIANCIANO exit off the A1 Autostrada del Sole, then continue on the SS71 towards CASTIGLIONE DEL LAGO and then on 75bis via the Perugia-A1 spur road to PERUGIA, exiting at PASSIGNANO OVEST and keeping to the left for TUORO. From here it is just a few minutes to the Relais Borgo Torale.
History
The Relais Borgo Torale is an ancient village in the municipality of Tuoro Sul Trasimeno on Lake Trasimene, in the province of Perugia, which dates back to the mid-1600s. In the past, the Borgo was part of the large estates of the Marquises Ranieri di Sorbello; today, the Historical Residence is owned by the Salvetti family which, after long and meticulous renovations, has brought it back to its former glory.
Since 1993, Borgo Torale has been under a preservation order by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities.
THE HISTORY OF LAKE TRASIMENE
The Battle of Trasimene: It is worth noting that in ancient times some important historical events took place in the area in which the Residence is located. History tells us that over 2000 years ago, in 217 BC to be exact, during the Second Punic War, a famous battle took place on the shores of Lake Trasimene and in the surrounding area, in which the Carthaginian forces of Hannibal defeated the Roman army under Gaius Flaminius.
The battle is documented in history books such as the Battaglia del Trasimeno.
On the morning of June 24th, 217 BC, Gaius Flaminius’ troops, made up of over 25,000 men, were taken by surprise by the Carthaginian armies, which surrounded them between the hills and the lake shore, and then massacred theToday it is possible to visit the nearby archaeological sites of the Battle, and in June, July and August you can participate in Folk events that commemorate those tragic moments of the past.
